Look, we know you’ve got people on social media you want to impress. You’re already filming awesome videos that have garnered a decent following, but how are you editing those videos, pal?

It’s okay to use your phone’s built-in editor, but if we’re being honest, that’s just not robust enough to handle your big ideas. You need video editor apps that let you add subtitles, a green screen, smart captions, color enhancements, and a lot more.

Apps like Videoleap and Wondershare Fimora will help you do just that. While these apps have some similarities, they differ in terms of their features, pricing, and overall user experience.

Let’s dig into the differences between these two apps so you can download the best video editor to make a splash with your followers. Check out this showdown between Wondershare Filmora versus Videoleap.

What is Videoleap?

The creator economy is big — and it’s only getting bigger. That’s why the folks who built Facetune2 decided to create Videoleap. Their goal was to create a video editor app that really pushes the limits of technology and gives all creators the opportunity to express themselves. So yeah, a lot of nerdy academic research went into the features and user experience that make up Videoleap.

It’s a platform designed for professional social media creators; but don’t worry, it’s simple enough to use that total beginners love it, too. Videoleap rivals the quality of desktop editing software, but in a mobile-friendly platform that fits in the palm of your hand.

Videoleap allows creators of all skill levels to turn little ideas into big stories. The app works for iPhone, iPad, and Android, so you can film and edit your videos wherever, whenever. Videoleap has over 60 million downloads to date and a 4.5-star rating on the App Store, which makes it one of the most robust video editors on the market.

Fave features

If you just want to combine and trim clips, Videoleap will help you run circles around other creators. But if you get this app, there’s a lot more to it than just simple video editing. Check out Videoleap’s other helpful features like:

  • Drag-and-drop interface: You don’t have to be a wiz to figure out Videoleap. A combination of long-press and short-press commands gives you the firepower of desktop editing software on your phone. Cool, huh?
  • Special effects: Blur your videos or use Chroma to sample parts of your clips, tap ‘em, and vanish ‘em.
  • Templates: Open Videoleap and you’ll see the latest templates from influencers you know and love, like Charli D’Amelio. If you want to mimic her latest TikToks, Videoleap’s templates make it as easy as uploading your clips.
  • Customization: You’re free to customize each video with transitions, effects, and speed settings to fit the vibe you’re going for.
  • Advanced tools: Are you a bit of a video editing connoisseur? That’s fine! Videoleap has pro-level editing options like keyframes, masks, chroma key, and mixers so you’ll never get bored.
  • Built-in library: You don’t need to pay out the wazoo for supplementary content. Videoleap comes loaded with stock footage, special effects, music, stickers, and filters.
  • Inspiration: Need a little inspo? When you open Videoleap, you’ll see a TikTok-like feed where you can scroll through hundreds of other creators’ videos. Get the behind-the-scenes scoop on how they make cool vids, courtesy of the Videoleap app.
  • Support: If you’re new to video editing (or just need help navigating the app), Videoleap has online support available to help.

Pricing

Videoleap offers a free 7-day trial so you can get the feel of the app before committing. If you love what you see, Videoleap is just $7.99 a month

What is Wondershare Filmora?

Launched in 2015, Wondershare Filmora is a big-name video editor app with over 100 million users around the world. It actually has two separate products: Filmora for Windows and Mac and FilmoraGo for iOS, Android, and iPad.

FilmoraGo has a ton of features, but it’s more limited than the desktop version of the software. But even so, you can directly share to Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Whatsapp directly from FilmoraGo.

Wondershare Filmora is popular for its Effects & Plug-ins add-on. This is a paid add-on but it gives you access to a ridiculous number of media assets, video effects, and advanced features like AI Portrait.

The only issue with Wondershare Filmora is that it’s known to be a little glitchy, especially with the desktop version. You might also have a few issues with import compatibility, so keep that in mind.

Fave features

Wondershare Filmora started out as a basic editor, but it’s evolved to include more robust features like:

  • Speech to text
  • Text to speech
  • Audio visualizer
  • Animated video effects
  • Title and video text
  • Speed ramping
  • Screen recorder
  • Green screen
  • Audio syncing
  • Color match and correction

Pricing

Wondershare Filmora offers a free 7-day trial if you want to give it a spin. The annual plan is about $50 a year, but they also have a “perpetual plan” that’s $80 upfront. This is great if you know you want to use Wondershare Filmora indefinitely, although it only includes 11 updates — and then you’re on your own.

Filmora also sells its Effects & Plug-ins subscription for $21 a month.

Which is better, Videoleap or Wondershare Filmora?

If you’re trying to choose between Videoleap versus Wondershare Filmora, our vote goes to Videoleap.

Filmora’s pricing is kind of convoluted — plus it’s pretty expensive to shell out $80 to $100 for everything upfront. And even if you pay for the perpetual subscription, it only comes with a certain number of included updates before you’ll need to pay for them again, anyway.

If you want a reliable video editor app that you can always count on, go with Videoleap. This affordable, mobile-friendly video editor makes it easy for anyone to bring their ideas to life — and have a downright good time doing it.
